To improve the efficiency of the AAPM Board of directors. To investigate the pros and cons of the following ideas:
- Time and place of Board meetings and number of meetings per year. There seems to be a consensus that the Board should meet 'face to face' at the Annual AAPM meeting, but can or should other Board meetings be held under a different venue? For example, NOT at the RSNA meeting but at another time and another place such as a centrally located airport (Chicago, Dallas/Ft Worth, Denver, Atlanta)?
- The compressed time schedule of the AAPM and RSNA meetings currently requires that committees and councils meet between Friday and Monday so that they can file rushed reports by Tuesday, to be presented to Board members in and 'on site packet' on Wednesday or Thursday for the Board to review and approve almost instantly. How can this system be improved?
- Explore possible Rules and/or Bylaws changes to make #1-2 above possible. At present, part of the compressed time schedule is mandated by Rules or Bylaws specifying that certain actions by the Board must take place within x days of the annual business meeting. However, it appears that the time, place, and format of the Annual Business meeting can be changed without needing to change the Bylaws. I believe that the Board could, for example, make the Annual Business meeting virtual or electronic if it so chooses.
- Recommend changes to the format of Board Meetings. In particular, recommend methods to allow more time for the Board to discuss broad range AAPM policy and long range planning. For example, committee reports and other informational and/or rubber stamp items could be submitted to the Board in advance, possible for on-line action independent of a face to face Board meeting, etc.
- Recommend optimal methods for the Board to conduct electronic votes.
- Recommend optimal methods for the Board to conduct discussions in between Board meetings (such as on the current AAPM Website Bulletin Board).
- Recommend optimal methods for the Board to communicate with query the general AAPM membership.
