The charge of this committee was:
The committee will share the review responsibilities, respond to suggestions and work on service improvements and policies. This committee was put in place until a permanent committee, the Placement Service Committee, could be put into place. The committee did not produce a report, however, because the placement bulletin was previously distributed in print and some advertisers needed proof they had placed an ad, the following document was produced to give to anyone needing it.
To Whom It May Concern:
The American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) is a 5000 member professional society and is the primary organization for medical physicists. Almost all qualified medical physicists employed in the US are members of the association and over 96% are directly accessible by e-mail. All members have access to the official AAPM web site. The AAPM Placement Bulletin appears on the official AAPM website and is an all-electronic and virtually instantaneous communication of position offerings from employers of physicists working in medical and medically related roles. In addition to the advertisements on the web site, once each month all positions currently in the bulletin are sent as a list to the members of the AAPM. This is a heavily used service and, last year, in excess of 700 positions were advertised by the bulletin for a minimum of 30 days each. For over 30 years it has been the primary access media for this employment market and there is no publication, whether print or electronic, which would reach more individuals in the profession.
The AAPM no longer offers a hard-copy publication of the Placement Bulletin. Hard copy publication delays access to qualified candidates and for that reason, this publication is currently available on-line only with no paper counterpart. Advertisers are not provided with a physical “tear sheet” of their ads. The best proof that an ad has been placed in the Bulletin would be a print-out of the advertisement order/invoice and a print-out of the web page advertisement. Questions about the service may be directed to either the Placement Director, Thomas Potts
